A memorial service will be held at Centenary Methodist Church, 1911 Toyon Ave., Modesto on July 28 at 10 a.m. for Margaret Clavering Hinson Bell, 91, of Modesto. She died June 13, 2012 in Modesto.

Born June 14, 1920, Mrs. Bell was a native of Roswell, N.M., and had lived in the Modesto area since 1928. She was a freelance writer primarily writing for children. She wrote a series of books on Stanislaus County history for school children of this area. She also wrote for the Modesto Bee's Our Turn column. Mrs. Bell had been Master of Keyes Grange #524 for over 30 years and was a member of Stanislaus County Pomona Grange. She sang in choir and taught Sunday school for many years at Centenary Methodist Church and was also associated with Harvest Presbyterian Church in Ceres. She was a charter member of the Ceres Historical Society and was a member of the Stanislaus County Historical Society. Margaret was active with the Volunteer Center Literacy programs. She was a member of Modesto's Poets' Corner and a member of Tuolumne River Lodge for over 50 years. She served as president of the Modesto chapter of the National League of American Pen Women.

She leaves behind four children, Christopher Bell of Sebastopol, Creighton Bell of Rohnert Park, Kerry Bell of Willits, and Rhonda Grider of Modesto; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
