Ceres Unified School District launched its new-look web site on Jan. 4.

"It looks more professional," CUSD Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services Jay Simmonds said.

Chris Higle, director of Information Technology and Media Services, helped work on the upgrade project for 6-8 months.

"It was a laborious process," he said. "One of the biggest changes is the new web site is compliant with ADA (The Americans with Disabilities Act)."

User feedback has been extremely positive according to Higle.

Ceres Unified's web site (www.ceres.k12.ca.us) is powered by SharpSchool. SharpSchool was founded in 2001 with the goal of helping educational institutions improve communication and enrich student learning. More than 3000 schools and districts nationwide use its services.

"We chose SharpSchool because it was cost effective, easy to use and had the most features," Higle said. "It's a big change."

CUSD's homepage has a navigation bar, four portals and nine quick links.

Ceres Unified's web content can be translated in 10 different languages, including Spanish, Cantonese, French, German, Italian, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Korean, Russian and Hindi.

"It's a modern web site," Higle said. "We wanted to make sure we had something that's user-friendly for our customers. It's easy to get information. Our staff can access the web site and make changes. We're pleased with it."
