The members of Central Valley High School's varsity wrestling program had a busy week.

Ashley Barnes-Berrios, Malynda Lomeli, Lexy Cordova, Casandra Maldonado, Zaira Reynoso and Napa Martina Bernal competed at the 15th Annual Valley Girls Classic on Saturday at Vintage High School.

The Hawks placed 21st at the 108-team event.

Barnes-Berrios finished sixth with a 3-1 record in the 122-pound weight class.

Ashley withdrew from the tournament after pulling a muscle between her neck and shoulder in the semifinals.

"There was no reason for her to risk further injury," head coach Rob Beckhart said. "She wants to go to State. We want to focus on getting her healthy."

Lomeli (126s, 3-2) and Cordova (118s, 3-2) both finished in the top 12 in their respective divisions.

"She (Malynda) had the toughest bracket," Beckhart said.

Maldonado (114s, 2-2) and Reynoso (146s, 2-2) placed in the top 16.

Bernal (189s, 0-2) lost twice.

"This is the biggest tournament for girls in the state," Beckhart said. "There were a lot of good wrestlers there."

Central Valley had a respectable showing at the Lloyd C. Engel Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Escalon.

"I'm extremely happy with how they did," Beckhart said. "They're all getting better."

Adrian Vizcaino won five of seven matches on his way to a fourth-place finish at 184 pounds.

Central Valley 108-pounder Isaiah Gonzales compiled a 4-0 record during the first day of the tournament. He failed to make weight the second day.

Michael Manzur (115s) and Jorge Canales (197s) both won two of three matches before suffering tournament-ending neck and shoulder injuries.

Frankie Valdez (147s, 4-2), Eddy Nunez (162s, 3-3), Jose Castillo (154s, 2-3), Joaquin Garcia (172s, 2-4) Gabe Ibarra (285s, 1-3) and Navjot Singh (122s, 0-4) also competed.

Central Valley improved to 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet standings following Wednesday's 52-18 rout of host Livingston.

The Wolves (0-3) remained winless.

Ibarra, Manzur, Singh, Castillo, Valdez, Nunez, Vizcaino, Canales, Angel Gonzales and Jason Beckhart were all victorious.

Ibarra won by pin (3:30) over Rafael Millan at 285 pounds.

Manzur won by pin (2:37) over Christian Mancero at 120 pounds.

Singh won by decision (8-4) over Lymbny Garibay at 126 pounds.

Castillo won by pin (1:28) over Cesar Aguilar at 152 pounds.

Valdez won by decision (9-4) over Jesus Sierra at 160 pounds.

Nunez won by pin (5:51) over Cody Carter at 170 pounds.

Vizcaino won by pin (0:39) over David Lomeli at 182 pounds.

Canales won by pin (4:54) over Francisco Perez at 195 pounds.

Gonzales won by major decision (16-3) over Marcos Valencia at 132 pounds.

Beckhart won by forfeit at 220 pounds.

"We had to earn it," Rob Beckhart said. "They only gave up one forfeit to us. The kids came through like I thought they would."
