Patterson wasted little time asserting its authority, building an 11-point lead in the opening six minutes of Friday's Western Athletic Conference varsity boys basketball contest with host Ceres High.

The Bulldogs responded with a 30-10 run of their own en route to seizing a 35-26 halftime lead.

The Tigers increased their defensive intensity in the second half and rallied for a 68-63 win over upset-minded Ceres High at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

"We played really well in stretches," Bulldogs head coach Brian de la Porte said. "We just got to do it for 32 minutes."

Ceres High dropped to 8-10 on the year and 1-3 in the WAC standings.

Patterson improved to 15-4 and 4-0 in conference play.

Jimbo Pernetti led the Bulldogs in scoring with 20 points.

Caden Johnson added 14 points.

Harman Chung and Jimmy Bates both collected eight points.

Abel Reyes, Terry Brogdon and Angel Garcia had six, four and three points, respectively.

Keegan Sanchez led the Tigers in scoring with 20 points.

Cariaun Williams tallied 16 points.

Jordan Levu contributed 11 points.

There were numerous swings in momentum during the WAC meeting.

Both teams squandered double-digit leads.

Patterson scored the first 11 points of the third quarter.

"That can't happen," said Pernetti, whose team faced a 48-46 deficit heading into the final period. "We needed to come out and set the tone. We had a chance to put the game out of reach. We just didn't match their intensity. We competed with them. They're pretty good. Their record shows it."

"We knew they were going to battle back," de la Porte added.

Chung scored back-to-back baskets to give the Bulldogs a 50-48 lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers took control with a momentum-seizing 10-1 run.
