CV wrestlers move into tie for second with CHS

Central Valley High School's varsity wrestling team returned home happy from Los Banos last week.

The Hawks prevailed, 51-27, during their Western Athletic Conference dual-meet showdown with host Pacheco on Wednesday.

Central Valley improved to 7-3 on the year and into a tie for second place with crosstown-rival Ceres High in the WAC standings (3-1).

The Hawks lost the first match of the night before reeling off six straight victories against the Panthers.

Angel Gonzales won by pin (2:22) over Maria Quiroz in the 128-pound division.

Logan Dowling won by pin (4:33) over Sal Rostro at 134 pounds.

Cristian Garcia won by pin (2:56) over Keith Kolenut at 140 pounds.

Luis Torres won by pin (2:25) over Nathan Bristow at 147 pounds.

Frankie Valdez won by pin (0:55) over Joseph Rainbol at 154 pounds.

Eddy Nunez won by pin (5:20) over Thomas Cardenas at 162 pounds.

Adrian Vizcaino, Isaiah Gonzales and Ricardo Briseno also played a part in the Hawks' team success this past week.

Vizcaino won by pin (2:47) over Adrian Eusebio at 184 pounds.

Gonzales won by decision (3-2) over Christian Grigala at 115 pounds.

Briseno won by forfeit at 108 pounds.

Central Valley will compete against Central Catholic today in Ceres at 6 p.m.

Tigers 51, Bulldogs 16

Ceres High's and Los Banos' varsity wrestling teams tied for first place in the WAC regular-season dual-meet standings in 2012.

The Tigers won the 2013 head-to-head matchup, 51-16, over the Bulldogs on Wednesday at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Ceres High dropped to 3-1 in the WAC.

First-place Los Banos (4-0) kept its perfect record intact.

The Bulldogs trailed 45-0 before Ruben Sanchez defeated Los Banos' Bailey Rodriguez by pin (1:47) at 222 pounds.

Bulldog teammates Armando Morales and Gabe Balderas contributed as well.

Morales defeated Mando Pelayo by pin (3:15) at 285 pounds.

Balderas defeated Riko Quintana by major decision (14-5) at 122 pounds.

Ceres High dropped the first nine matches of the WAC dual, including three by three points or less.
