Ahead 19-12 after the first six matches, Central Valley High School's varsity wrestling team struggled the rest of the way en route to a 44-25 loss to Central Catholic on Wednesday in Ceres.

"I knew it would take a perfect performance by our kids to pull it out," Hawks head coach Rob Beckhart said. "We made some mistakes. The disappointing part is I still feel we have the talent to beat them."

The Hawks dropped to 7-4 on the year and third place in the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet standings (3-2).

The Raiders (4-1) took over sole possession of second place.

The loss eliminated Central Valley from the race for the second and final berth for the Sac-Joaquin Section Team Dual Championships.

Isaiah Gonzales, Michael Manzur, Cristian Garcia, Logan Dowling and Gabe Ibarra picked up individual wins for the Hawks last week.

Gonzales won his 115-pound bout versus Cole Montgomery by major decision (14-4).

Manzur defeated Zach Days by pin (1:12) at 122 pounds.

Garcia defeated Roman Dias by decision (3-2) at 134 pounds.

Dowling (140s) and Ibarra (285s) were awarded forfeit victories.

Ricardo Briseno lost by pin (3:03) to Jared Nicholson at 108 pounds.

Angel Gonzales lost by pin (1:40) to Danny Abbate at 128 pounds.

Jose Castillo lost by pin (3:59) to Joey Abbate at 147 pounds.

Frankie Valdez lost by pin (5:05) to Devon Kelly at 154 pounds.

Eddy Nunez lost by major decision (12-1) to Gahliel Dillard at 162 pounds.

Joaquin Garcia lost by major decision (13-1) to Mike Hernandez at 172 pounds.

Jorge Canales lost by pin (5:06) to Ray Lomas at 184 pounds.

Adrian Vizcaino lost by decision (5-3) to Reggie Bland at 197 pounds.

Jesus Lopez lost by decision (1-0) to Ryan McLean at 222 pounds.

Central Valley will host crosstown-rival Ceres High (3-2) today at 6 p.m.

"I'd like to see the whole town show up," Beckhart said.
