Head coach Jesse Padilla and the members of Central Valley High School's varsity girls basketball team had a ho-hum attitude following Thursday's 50-37 victory over visiting Livingston.

The fourth-place Hawks improved to 4-5 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

The fifth-place Wolves dropped to 1-8.

Central Valley placed first and qualified for the playoffs the past two years. Both streaks will in all likelihood come to an end this season.

"It's a longshot now," Padilla said.

Added Hawks guard Catrina Castillo: "I thought we would have done better this season. But it is what it is. I'm just trying to enjoy my senior year."

Castillo made two treys on her way to tallying a team-high 10 points.

Mia Lorenzo scored a team-high 13 points.

Brittany Martinez and Jessica Martinez totaled seven and six points, respectively.

Veronica Duarte and Tamara Uti tallied four points each.

Bianca Zuniga and Emily Rivas chipped in with two points apiece.

Ali Martinez and Nicholette Mendez both had one point.

The Hawks held a slim 27-25 lead at halftime.

Central Valley outscored Livingston 16-8 in the third quarter. Lorenzo scored seven points, while Uti added four points.

"We ran our plays like we were supposed to," Castillo said. "We moved the ball around and got everybody involved."

Ceres High lost 54-36 to first-place Patterson on Jan. 29 in Ceres.

Mia tallied 10 points.

Brittany had eight points.

Ali and Emily each contributed five points.

Catrina collected four points.

Jessica and Tamara both contributed two points.

The Tigers outscored the Hawks 28-16 after intermission.

Central Valley trailed 26-20 at halftime.

Central Valley will play at Ceres High on Thursday and host to Central Catholic on Feb. 12.

Both games will start at 7:30 p.m.
