Central Valley High School varsity wrestling head coach Rob Beckhart made a bet with Hawk grappler Isaiah Gonzales prior to the start of the 2012-13 Western Athletic Conference season.

"I told him I would cut my hair into a Mohawk and dye it green if he won league," Beckhart said. "It was strictly for motivation. It almost worked."

Gonzales posted a 2-1 record en route to a second-place finish in the 108-pound division at the WAC Championships on Saturday in Los Banos.

Isaiah won by forfeit against Pacheco in the first round, defeated Ceres High's Micah Young by major decision (18-5) in the semifinals and lost by pin (1:42) to Los Banos' Tyler Felix in the finals.

Gonzalez improved his overall record to 31-12. He competed sparingly at the varsity level as a sophomore last year.

"He's had a great season," Beckhart said. "He always had good technique. He has more confidence now."

Gonzales and seven other Hawk wrestlers earned the right to compete at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Tournament after finishing among the top four in their respective brackets at the WAC finals last week.

Adrian Vizcaino successfully defended his 184-pound title.

Vizcaino won all three of his matches by pin and improved his overall record to 30-12.

Adrian was seeded third.

Frankie Valdez (154 pounds, 3-1 record), Eddy Nunez (162, 3-1) and Jorge Canales (197, 2-1) all placed third.

Michael Manzur (122s, 2-2), Cristian Garcia (140s, 2-2) and Joaquin Garcia (172s, 2-2) finished fourth.

Logan Dowling (134s, 0-2) was named an alternate for Divisionals. Dowling took fifth.

The Hawks racked up 126 points while finishing in fourth place in the team standings.
