A collision involving two vehicles and a big rig in a rural area southwest of Keyes resulted in the death of a Ceres senior.

The deceased was identified as John Mirabella, 85, of Ceres.

The collision happened around 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Mitchell Road and Monte Vista Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Mirabella was driving a 2010 Toyota southbound on Mitchell Road, approaching the intersection with Monte Vista Avenue. The intersection has posted stop signs on Mitchell, but not Monte Vista.

Mirabella stopped at the stop sign, said the CHP, but then for an unknown reason Mirabella drove forward, just as a 2014 Ford driven by Timothy Brazil, 58, of Turlock entered the intersection. Brazil had no time to take any evasive action and the front of his Ford struck the Toyota on the driver's side.

The force of the impact sent the Toyota spinning in a counterclockwise direction and into a 2009 Freightliner that had been traveling eastbound on Monte Vista and had stopped to make a left turn onto Mitchell.

The impact sent the Ford off the shoulder of the road where it struck a wood utility pole, according to the CHP.
Mirabella sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brazil stated he would seek his own medical attention.
The driver of the big rig, Ernesto Gonzalez, 32, of Madera had no reported injuries.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the collision.
