March 10, 2018

Carl Reinhart was blessed with a full and wonderful life for 95 years and 7 months. His journey began on August 10, 1922 and concluded on this earth on March 10, 2018.

He was the youngest of three boys born to Walter and Hazel Reinhart who came to Ceres in 1917 to raise crops and establish a home for their family. He learned at an early age the importance of hard work and the responsibility of living on a farm. He attended Ceres schools, graduating from Ceres High School in 1940. After graduating from Modesto Junior College in June 1942, he was drafted into the army in November 1942. He spent three years in the military in places such as New Guinea where he encrypted and decoded messages.

Returning home, to the one who captured his heart, he and Cathern Atwell were married and spent 65 years together before her passing in 2011. The ranch was an integral part of their lives along with raising three daughters, Charlotte (Ron) Carpenter, Carleen (David) Barton and Cynthia (Joseph) Atkerson. These unions provided seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

His lifelong commitment was to live a life of faithfulness to Christ and His church, giving his heart to Christ at age 11. He was an active member of the Ceres First Church of Christ and in his later years to Shelter Cove Community Church. So many of his joys in life were found with family in camping and, of course, fishing was always on the docket. Carl was always good for a fish story! After becoming widowed he found a new home at Bethel Retirement Community in 2011. He developed a whole new set of friends, with one special friend, Dolores Nilsson. She became the joy of his life and they shared many happy moments together.

A special word of thanks to the staff at Bethel Retirement for their care and compassion that went beyond the call of duty. His family will be forever grateful.

If Carl could say one thing today it would be "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 16 at Salas Brothers Funeral Home, 419 Scenic Drive, Modesto, with burial immediately following at Lakewood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto CA 95356.
