A 30-year-old Modesto man was arrested for auto theft after he led a Ceres Police officer on a high-speed chase throughout Modesto Tuesday morning, April 24.

At 3:17 a.m. Officer Jessica Graham heard a radio broadcast from the California Highway Patrol about a stolen red Honda Prelude taken from the 1600 block of River Road. Graham was in the area of South 9th Street approaching River Road when she observed the red Honda Prelude turn onto Ninth Street from River Road right in front of her.

Graham attempted to stop the driver at E and 10th Street in downtown Modesto but the driver, Henry Odell Fisher, 30, of Modesto, accelerated. The driver drove erratic by speeding and running stop signs at 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and Burney streets. The vehicle ran additional stop signs at Kelly and James. Fisher made a left turn onto Loma Vista Avenue and continued at a high rate of speed through the residential neighborhood. He ran the stop sign at Loma Vista and Morton and made a right turn onto Morton, continuing through a dirt lot after driving through the intersection of Morton and Jennie. The driver crossed over Yosemite Boulevard, back onto Morton and through a park at a high rate of speed. While driving through the park, the Honda hit a pole, causing air bags to deploy. Fisher attempted to climb out the window but Officer Graham held him at gun point.

Fisher admitted stealing the car after he saw it left running while unattended. He was booked for felony auto theft, possession of stolen property, evading police, and probation violation.
