Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with the March 29 attempted murder of a man in the 1900 block of Darrah Street.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the back during a 10:06 p.m. incident. The victim reported riding his bicycle eastbound on Darrah Street when he encountered two men whom he knew. As he rode past them, Angel Martinez, 23, of Ceres, allegedly shot the victim in the back with a small caliber handgun. The victim jumped off his bicycle and ran north toward an alley to get away. It is alleged that Angel Martinez fired four to five more shots at the victim as he ran to safety.

The victim ran to his home and called the police. He was rushed to a local hospital and treated for his non-life threatening injury before being released.

Later in the evening Ceres police detectives identified Jarvis Stennis, 21, of Ceres, as an accomplice to the shooting. Jarvis Stennis allegedly yelled, "Get him, get him" encouraging Angel Martinez to continue shooting at the victim.

Detectives identified Martinez as the gunman and learned he was at a residence in the 2800 block of Hatch Road. Detectives and patrol officers surrounded the house at 12:29 p.m. on April 2. After repeated announcements on the public address system, Martinez surrendered and was taken into custody.

Both Martinez and Stennis are facing charges of attempted murder.
