Ceres Police Department has released a photo of a woman seen driving away from the scene of mailbox tampering, possibly in an attempt to steal mail.

A postal letter carrier drove up to a cluster mail box in the 3700 block of Central Avenue at 4:24 p.m. on Jan. 5. He saw a man drilling into a lock mechanism on the front. He asked the man, who was a Hispanic man with black hair, wearing a white T-shirt, standing about 5-foot-10, and weighing about 200 pounds, what he was doing. He replied that his friend had lost a key to the box. The suspect quickly walked across the street to an awaiting black Jeep Cherokee driven by a woman and they took off.
The postal carrier snapped a photo of the driver as they took off.

The case is currently vandalism to a mailbox but detectives want to question them as persons of interest in a possible mail theft case.

Anyone who knows the woman's identity is urged to call Ceres Police Detectives at 538-5745.
