Members of the Ceres Police Department Street Crimes Unit attempted to stop the driver of a Nissan Quest for traffic violations in the area of Steele and Mock on Tuesday, May 7 but a short chase ensued which ended with a crash into a light pole in the 1300 block of Richland Avenue.

The chase started at approximately 7:28 p.m.

The driver, Ricardo Suarez, 21, of Keyes, and the passenger, 21 year old Modestan Valentin Perez who is a documented Sureno gang member, attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended.

A loaded .45 caliber handgun and illegal drugs were taken from the car.

Suarez was treated at a local hospital for a minor injury, released, and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for evading and obstructing a police officer, carrying a concealed firearm, and having a loaded firearm in public.

Perez, who sustained a minor injury during the crash, was booked for an out-of-county warrant, for obstructing a police officer and for possession of concentrated cannabis.
