A 32-year-old Modesto man was arrested Wednesday morning, March 29, after he was detained by the owner of a car he was caught burglarizing.

The homeowner, living in the 700 block of Always Drive, told police he was lying in bed at 6:59 a.m. and looked at a video surveillance monitor of his car parked in the driveway with the passenger door open. He saw a suspect climb in and close the door. The owner walked out to his car, opened the door and found Michael Roy Anderson with a hypodermic needle. Anderson was jerked out of the car and detained on his front lawn while police were called.

Officer Charles Rushing arrived to find the victim holding the suspect to the ground. Anderson was handcuffed and placed in the patrol vehicle. During a search of the victim the officer found prescription glasses and an auxiliary cord taken from the car.

Rushing viewed the surveillance video which showed Anderson riding his bicycle into the driveway and around the passenger side, climbing off the bike, opening the unlocked passenger door, entering the vehicle and closing the door. Anderson told police he did not have permission to be in the car and had no explanation for being in the car while insisting the prescription glasses and auxiliary cord were his property.

Anderson was booked on charges of felony vehicle burglary.
