Two persons were arrested after they allegedly committed separate shoplifting attempts at different Hatch Road stores on Friday, June 30.

At 10:21 a.m., Benjamin Travis, 35, was caught attempting to leave Cost Less Foods on Hatch Road with approximately $40 worth of merchandise without paying for it. He was confronted by store employees and detained. Travis had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest issued by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and booked for shoplifting and the warrants.

At 12:25 p.m. Katherine Barry, 31, of Modesto, was arrested after she allegedly walked out of Kmart without paying for $100 worth of merchandise. Barry was confronted outside of the Ceres store by store personnel and police were called. Officer Carter transported her to the Public Safety Center where she was booked for shoplifting.
