Heroin lands man in jail

Heroin lands man in jail

POSTED July 11, 2017 4:38 p.m.

A 55-year-old man on probation was arrested early Saturday for possession of black tar heroin with evidence he was selling the drug.

At 1:09 a.m. Officer Eric Gallegos stopped a black Audi being driven without its headlights operating near Bystrum Road and Joyce Avenue. Driver Michael Wood, 55, of Modesto, had a suspended driver license and also a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested, as was passenger Joseph Krueger, 32, of Modesto, who also had a warrant for his arrest and on searchable probation.

Officer Gallegos searched Wood and found over $6,500 in his wallet. Wood explained that while he doesn't work he collects a disability check of about $1,000 a month. A white package labeled "10 grams" was stuffed in a dash compartment where a radio normally would be. Inside the package was black tar heroin weighing 61 grams with a street value of $2,500.

Wood denied knowing anything about the heroin but admitted to being a heroin user. He said the car and money belonged to him. He was booked on charges of possession, transportation of a controlled substance for sale, driving on a suspended license, and outstanding traffic warrants.

Krueger admitted being a heroin user but denied knowledge of the heroin inside the car.
