Anthony Elijah Butler, 23, of Riverbank, was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge after he was caught speeding and driving erratically down Mitchell Road.

Officer Vince Hooper spotted Butler's northbound Toyota Camry speeding at 9 p.m. on Thursday. The officer followed as Butler zipped through a red light and speed into the Walmart parking lot and proceed to the Hatch Road exit and westbound on Hatch Road. He looped through the parking lot of Valley Mart Liquors with the officer in pursuit. Butler almost collided with the rear of a vehicle stopped for a red light and doubled back into the parking lot where he stopped. Officer Hooper ordered Butler out of the car at gunpoint. The driver appeared intoxicated and the car contained a large open beer can. Butler refused to answer questions but was put through a field sobriety test which he failed. He was placed under arrest for DUI. A breath sample revealed a .18 blood alcohol content level.
