Ceres Police arrested Manuel Topete, 38, of Ceres, the day before Christmas after they say he drove back and forth across a front lawn in the 3000 block of Malik Avenue after getting into an alleged argument between intoxicated individuals.

The crime was reported at 3:09 a.m. Dispatchers were told that a man in a white Dodge pickup was driving recklessly and when police caught up to Topete - he was going northbound in the southbound lane of Malik Drive - he ignored a patrol car's lights and siren and drove until he drove over a curb and stopped. Topete got out of the truck despite the officer's demands to stop and was forced to the ground and handcuffed. Topete's family spilled out of the house to confront officers.

Topete displayed obvious signs of intoxication and was transported to the Ceres Police station where he submitted to a series of field sobriety tests.

Topete was then booked for suspicion of DUI, felony evading and reckless driving.
