Michael Guptin, 27, of Ceres, was arrested and booked for petty theft after he allegedly stole a can of beer from the Chevron store at Herndon and Hatch roads Sunday morning.

The store clerk called police at 7:33 a.m. after the theft occurred, identifying the suspect as Guptin. Officer Kiashira Ruiz reviewed the store's security video and recognized Guptin as the one taking a beer and walking out of the store. He was detained a short distance away with the cold can of beer in his pocket, transported to jail and booked for petty theft and for violating his probation.
