An unidentified middle-aged male transient was left in critical condition after he was struck by a car Saturday evening at Hatch and Mitchell roads.

Officers found the injured man lying in the gutter at the southeast corner at 9:59 p.m. The victim was unconscious, unresponsive, and bleeding from the head. It appeared he suffered a broken lower leg, head fracture, and a possible broken arm. Police believe the man, wearing dark clothing, was crossing Hatch Road southbound against a red light. He was approximately 10 feet from the curb when a vehicle struck him at approximately 40 mph.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and was cooperative with officers.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Ceres Police Traffic Sergeant Jason Coley at (209) 538-5642.
