A 23-year-old allegedly intoxicated Ceres man was arrested Sunday evening after he led police on a short and reckless pursuit.

Officer Matt Berlier was monitoring traffic on Service Road near Central Valley High School at 9:59 p.m. when a grey-colored Honda Civic sped by. He caught up to the car and noticed the registration had also expired. The driver got into the eastbound turn lane of Service Road and turned southbound onto Central Avenue, failing to stop for the red light. Berlier initiated a traffic stop with emergency lights and siren but Omar Gonzalez, 23, of Ceres, accelerated into the merge lane and shot past two vehicles, failing to yield. After a short distance Gonzalez slowed and activated the hazard lights but did not pull over. Gonzalez continued driving nearly a mile to 4945 Central Avenue where he pulled into the driveway where officers drew him out at gunpoint.

Gonzalez, on felony probation and driving on a suspended license, appeared intoxicated. He admitted drinking "a couple beers" and was given a field sobriety test at police headquarters. After a breath test revealed his Blood Alcohol Content was over double the legal limit, Gonzalez was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, misdemeanor evading, driving on a suspended license, probation violation, and multiple vehicle code violations.
