Central Valley's varsity boys volleyball team is no longer winless against Western Athletic Conference competition.

The Hawks improved to 1-2 in the WAC standings with a 3-1 win over Pacheco on March 29 in Los Banos.

"We had a little bit of a breakthrough," Central Valley head coach Kelly Heese said. "It was nice to see them play hard and not shut down. There was a lot of improvement on the court."

The Hawks moved into a three-way tie for second place in league play with Ceres High and Los Banos.

The last-place Panthers dropped to 0-3.

"I see a lot of potential in this team," Heese said. "They want to learn. We're giving away unnecessary points. That's what we need to work on."

Hector Herrera, Erick Martinez and Javier Villanueva filled key roles while leading Central Valley past Pacheco.

"They did a phenomenal job," Heese said.

Hector starred at outside hitter.

"He took control of the court," Heese said.

Erick and Javier did most of their damage while contributing on the front row.

"They were successful at the net," Heese said. "That made a huge difference."
