Ceres High varsity boys tennis standout Christian Pimentel fell one victory shy of accomplishing his goal at the Western Athletic Conference Singles Tournament on April 24 in Los Banos.

"I wasn't able to fulfill my goal of making it to the finals," Pimentel said. "I'm still proud of my performance."

Chris compiled a 2-1 record en route to a top-four finish at the WAC Championships.

Pimentel represented Ceres High in singles play for the last time.

"I didn't feel any pressure," he said. "I was focused on trying to win every point. It didn't hit me until after my final match."

He lost in straight sets to Los Banos' Quentin Barcellos in the semifinals.

Barcellos, the top overall seed, claimed the singles title.

"I did everything I could do to try to win the match," Pimentel said. "He has more experience. He's been playing tennis his whole life. I started playing my freshman year."

Christian topped Patterson's Lolyn Tejeda (three sets) in the quarterfinals and Livingston's Balpreet Chahal (straight sets) in the opening round.

Pimentel won nine of his 13 league matches this spring.
He had a 7-3 mark during the WAC dual season.

"I'm satisfied with how I played," Christian said. "I left everything on the court."

Bulldog senior Angelo Marino lost to Los Banos' Andy Liu in the opening round at the conference tournament.
