Anthony Bonales, a two-time Western Athletic Conference champion and MVP, knows it will be a challenge to pull off the three-peat.

The Central Valley High School junior heads into the WAC varsity boys golf season as an underdog.
Central Catholic newcomer/University of Colorado-bound Andrew Bonner will try to end Bonales' reign. Bonner sat out last year after transferring from Ripon.

"I think it's a blessing," Anthony said. "I'm thrilled he's in my league and I get a chance to play against him. I want to prove I'm just as good. It's not going to be easy."

Bulldogs target team success

Ceres High School's varsity boys golf team has a tradition to uphold.

The Bulldogs are seeking their third straight Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV Tournament berth. "It would be big to qualify again," Ceres High head coach Scott Smith said. "I'll be disappointed if we don't make it."

Ian Couture (Sr.), Blake Hurst (Sr.) and Dominic Durossette (Jr.) will lead the way.

Couture and Hurst are four-year starters.

Ian finished third in the WAC individual standings as a junior.

He earned first-team, all-conference honors.

"They (Couture and Hurst) really want to be successful," Smith said. "They work hard. They push each other. That's good."
