Central Valley's and Ceres High's freshman girls basketball teams had identical 2-7 records prior to facing off on the final day of the season.

The host Hawks took control in the opening half and held on for a 24-21 win over the Bulldogs on Feb. 9.

Ceres High dominated the first meeting, 25-14, on Jan. 19 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

The Hawks (3-7) and Bulldogs (2-8) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

Kaydee Peterman tallied a team-high eight points for Central Valley.

Christina Hermenegildo and Kimberly Hernandez both added six points.

Norma Vera had four points.

Bryana Falepouono tallied a game-high nine points for the Bulldogs.

Isabel Vizaino added six points.

Guadalupe Ochoa and Gurmenjit Bahia had four and two points, respectively.

Four different players scored as Central Valley built a 16-8 lead in the opening half. Peterman collected six points. Hermenegildo and Hernandez chipped in with four points apiece. Vera contributed two points.

The Bulldogs battled back in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 16-13 at the 3:21 mark. The Hawks responded with an 8-0 run.

Down 24-13, Ceres High rallied once again by outscoring Central Valley 8-0 in the fourth quarter.

The Hawks shot 0-for-8 from the free-throw line for the game.

The Bulldogs missed five of eight foul shots.
