Harinder Sidhu embraced being the go-to-player on Central Valley's varsity boys basketball team this season.

The senior guard was selected to the Western Athletic Conference First Team in a vote by the league's head coaches earlier this month at Ceres High.

"Everybody played a role in my success," Harinder said. "My coaches created plays to get me open. My teammates got me the ball."

"It doesn't surprise me," Hawks head coach Darryl Dickson said. "He's an awesome player. He had a great senior year. He's a big reason why we were able to squeeze into third place and make the playoffs. He meant everything to us."

Central Valley teammates Gurshan Chahal and Phillip Jackson were recognized as well.

Sidhu, Chahal and Jackson helped lead the Hawks to a third-place finish in the WAC standings (6-4) and their third postseason appearance in four years.

"Dickson pushed all of us to do our best," Sidhu said. "He's a really good coach."

Sidhu averaged 16.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

"I worked harder because I knew it was my last year," Harinder said. "There was pressure. I wanted to prove I was good."

Chahal was named to the WAC Second Team. The senior point guard averaged 11.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.

"He did everything for us, offensively and defensively," Dickson said. "He sacrificed scoring to run plays. He was our floor general. He did an excellent job."

Jackson, a junior forward, was an honorable-mention selection.
