Ceres High's varsity baseball team compiled an 11-15 record and won just three games in Western Athletic Conference play last season.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-4 overall and moved into a tie for second place in the 2017 WAC standings after beating Patterson twice this past week.

The Tigers (8-8, 4-4) dropped to third in league.

Ceres High lost twice to first-place Los Banos (13-0, 8-0) the previous week.

"It was a big week for us," Bulldogs head coach Clinton Goblirsch said. "We needed to get two wins to stay in contention for a playoff spot. We're continuing to get better. Our goal is to be playing our best baseball by the end of the season."

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the final inning en route to rallying for a 10-6 win over the Tigers on Thursday in Patterson.

Ceres High totaled eight hits during the game.

Ricky Lopez finished 3-for-4 with one triple, one double, four RBIs and two run.

Freshman Dalton Durossette finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and one run.

Sophomore Brock DeWitt finished 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs.

Blane Abeyta finished 2-for-3 with two runs.

Adrian Lujan finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Steven Brown and Austin Schmidt both collected one RBI.

Ismael Ontiveros scored.

Ontiveros was also the winning pitcher.

Ismael yielded no runs and two hits with two strikeouts and no walk in three innings.

Down 6-5, Ceres High scored five runs on two hits and six walks in the top of the seventh inning.

Lopez's single to left scored DeWitt and evened the score at 6-6.

Durossette plated Abeyta and Lopez when he lined a hard grounder past Patterson's third baseman.

Lujan and Durossette scored on walks to Brown and Schmidt, respectively.

"Nobody wanted to make an out," Goblirsch said. "We had guys that stepped up and got big hits when we needed them."

Lopez, a third-year varsity player, continued his hot streak on offense.

"Ricky's really been hitting well since league started," Goblirsch said. "He's made some adjustments to his swing. It's really paid off."

Santiago Cantu, Patterson's ace pitcher and the 2016 WAC MVP, gave up five runs (two earned) and six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in six innings.

The Bulldogs led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning.

"They have a great pitcher," Goblirsch said. "Scoring early gave us a lot of confidence. We were aggressive and were able to make some good contact."

Ceres High defeated visiting Patterson 4-1 on April 4 at Art McRae Field.

Bulldog junior Adrian Magdaleno pitched a complete game.

Magdaleno allowed one run, scattered eight hits, struck out one and walked none in seven innings.

"He didn't have his best stuff," Goblirsch said. "Overall, he was still able to make clutch pitches when it counted. He didn't walk anybody."

Lopez, Lujan and Kommavong all had multi-hit games.

Ricky batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Adrian and Zach both batted 2-for-3 with one run.

Ontiveros collected one RBI and one run.

DeWitt chipped in with one RBI.

Brown scored once.

The Bulldogs tallied all four of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Ceres High and Livingston (9-6, 5-3) will play twice this week.

The Bulldogs will face the host Wolves on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Durossette tossed a no-hitter during Ceres High's 7-0 victory against Livingston on March 21. "Our goal is to win every game we play," Goblirsch said.
