Max Sanchez's hot shooting helped propel Central Valley's varsity boys basketball team past Grace Davis 66-56 in non-conference play Wednesday evening in Ceres.

Sanchez buried eight 3-pointers in the game-seven in the opening half-en route to tallying 27 points.

Max set career-highs for treys made and points scored in a single game.

"It was impressive," Hawks head coach Mike Rodriguez said. "I don't think many of his shots were hitting the rim and he was shooting well beyond the 3-point line."

Central Valley's Daniel Villasenor totaled 17 points versus Grace Davis.

Tony Gaut collected 11 points.

Miguel Jimenez and Hanson Hy contributed three and two points, respectively.

David Serrano and Grant Neang both had one point.

Sanchez accounted for 21 of Central Valley's 35 first-half points.

"Every time he steps in a gym, he thinks he's the best shooter," Rodriguez said. "He hadn't had a breakout game yet. I was talking to my assistant coach (Nimrat Chahal) about that before the game."

The Hawks maintained a 12-lead at intermission.

"Our energy was good," Rodriguez said. "We tried to trap on defense to get the tempo up. We played 10 different guys. We used our depth."

Central Valley, which had a 3-5 overall record as of Monday, will compete in the Lincoln of Stockton tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
