Central Valley's varsity boys wrestling program has accomplished a lot the past four years.

The 2016-17 Hawks placed first at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV Tournament and Team Dual championships and claimed their second straight Western Athletic Conference overall title.

Central Valley fell short in its quest of capturing a fourth consecutive WAC dual-meet crown last season. The Hawks still managed to take second at Divisionals and league finals despite competing with a revamped roster.

"The expectation doesn't change," Central Valley head coach Rob Beckhart said. "We always expect to do well."

The 2017-18 Hawks' top returning grapplers are seniors Tyler Beckhart (220 pounds), James Murphy (160s) and Nathan Curry (182s), junior Ryan Palecek (170s), and sophomores Anthony Voss (120s), Kyle Hendrix (132s) and Thomas Carrillo (182s).

Central Valley standouts David Lezama, Severo Vazquez, Christian Oliver, Ryan Hendrix and Angel Rico graduated.

"We're young," coach Beckhart said. "I know we're going to get better as the season goes on."

Beckhart took first at the WAC Championships a year ago.

Voss (106s) finished third.

Hendrix (113s), Palecek (152s) and Murphy (160s) placed fourth.

Carrillo (182s) was fifth.

Beckhart, Hendrix, Palecek, Murphy and Voss all qualified for Divisionals.
Tyler took fourth.

Ky was sixth.

Ryan, James and Anthony did not place.

Beckhart went 0-2 at Masters.
