CHS girls show improvement at Pitman Holiday Classic

Ceres High's varsity girls basketball team lost to Hughson, Sonora and Grace Davis while participating in the Fifth Annual Pitman Pride Holiday Classic, Dec. 27-29, in Turlock.

The Bulldogs dropped to 2-12 on the year.

"We played really well against Hughson and Davis," head coach Aimee Gunzenhauser said. "They were very close games. We just need to work on keeping our turnovers down and putting our free throws in. I feel like we have a good shot at doing well in league if we correct those two aspects of the game. We are starting to work well together as a team."

Ceres High lost 55-52 in overtime to Hughson on Dec. 27.

Camryn Silva led the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points.

Chrystal Perales and Angeline Ursua both contributed 11 points.

Nacia Smith and Gabriela Carrasco tallied six and four points, respectively.

Harmen Bahia and Mya Robinson chipped in with two points apiece.

Ceres High trailed from start to finish in falling 60-42 to Sonora on Dec. 28.

Silva netted a team-high 11 points.

Robinson, Smith, Ursua and Perales added seven, six, five and four points, respectively.

Bahia, Carrasco, Andrea Duran and Branda Villalpando all scored two points.

Grace Davis edged Ceres High 49-44 on Dec. 29.

Ursua paced the Bulldogs with 15 points.

Smith, Silva and Perales totaled 12, eight and seven points, respectively.

Bahia had one point.

BOYS HOOPS
Ceres High's varsity boys basketball team suffered its second consecutive loss in preseason play last week.

The Bulldogs fell 69-62 while batting the Enochs Eagles on Jan. 5 in Modesto.

Ceres High dropped to 7-8 on the year.

Enochs improved to 9-6.

Inder Sandhu collected 27 points, seven rebounds and five steals to lead the Bulldogs.

Sandhu made 10 of 12 free throws.

Sophomore Dalton Durossette added 19 points and six rebounds.

Freshman Derrick O'Neal contributed nine points and three assists.

Christian Murry had three points, three steals, two rebounds and one assist.

Brock Moore had two points.

The Bulldogs reeled off four straight victories prior to sustaining back-to-back losses.
