A standout junior guard on Central Valley's varsity boys basketball team, Max Sanchez spends a considerable amount of time working on his craft.

"He goes to the gym early in the morning to get shots up before class," head coach Mike Rodriguez said.

Max was the Hawks' lone all-league selection during the Western Athletic Conference year-end coaches meeting on Feb. 27 at Ceres High School.

"The process was pretty spot on," Rodriguez said. "The teams with the best records get the most players."

Sanchez was selected to the WAC Second Team.

Max averaged 10.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game for Central Valley, which placed fifth in the conference standings (3-7).

"He had a solid year," Rodriguez said. "He was our best shooter. Most of our offensive sets went through him."

Sanchez buried six treys and scored a game-high 22 points in leading the Hawks past the Pacheco Panthers 65-48 on Jan. 17.

Max totaled 11 points as Central Valley won the rematch 61-41 on Jan. 31.

Sanchez helped the Hawks secure a split versus the crosstown-rival Bulldogs.

He poured in 18 points during Central Valley's 57-52 victory over Ceres High on Jan. 24.

Max had 11 points in the Hawks' 56-46 loss to the Bulldogs on Feb. 9.

"He was our main guy, offensively," Rodriguez said. "He made us go all year."
