The Ceres Jr. Bulldogs varsity football team turned in a so-so performance while beating the San Joaquin Jaguars 18-6 on Saturday at Central Valley High School.

The Jr. Bulldogs improved to 2-1-1 in the Central Valley Gridiron Youth Football standings.

The Jaguars dropped to 0-4 on the year.

“We did okay today but I know our players have a lot more talent than they showed,” head coach Joseph Estrada said. “We will focus at practice next week on fixing any errors that were made at this game and prepare for our next game versus the Delhi Jr. Hawks.”

Ceres’ Peter DeLeon ran for a team-leading 87 yards and three touchdowns against San Joaquin.

Ty’zhaun Johnson rushed for 52 yards on offense and intercepted one pass on defense.

Izriel Ramirez collected a team-high five tackles.

Fabian Lopez registered four tackles and one sack.

Jose Pimentel tallied three tackles and one sack.

Jose Escarcega had three tackles.

“Last week was a high-caliber rivalry game against the Central Valley Ducks that ended in a 30-30 tie,” Estrada said. “I believe my players felt this week was going to be an easy win. But the Jaguars came to play. I hope it opened up our players’ eyes that every game has to be played at the highest level.”
