A 29-year-old Turlock man was arrested early Wednesday, Sept. 30 after he led Ceres Police on a high-speed chase that ended when he lost control in Turlock.
At 2:22 a.m., Officer Krandall Vandagriff attempted to stop a vehicle speeding on northbound Moffett Road from Caswell Avenue. Driver Tommie Sharp ignored the patrol car lights and siren and sped past Hatch Road to Riverview Court where he made a U-turn to go southbound on Moffett to eastbound Whitmore Avenue and southbound Mitchell Road to southbound Highway 99. The suspect reached the Keyes Road exit where he shut off his headlights and taillights and continued to the Taylor Road exit in Turlock and lost control and spun out on the off-ramp. Smoke was pouring out from the engine compartment.
Sharp took off running into a nearby orchard. Officers set up a perimeter and spotted him and then he ran again. He was captured by Officer Nick Welsh who ordered him to the ground at gunpoint.
Sharp faces charges of felony evading a police officer along with the warrants for his arrest issued by the Kern County Sheriff Department and Turlock Police Department.
