Ceres Police are advising residents especially in the southwest area of Ceres to beware of thefts of mail occurring at cluster boxes in neighborhoods.

At 6:46 a.m. on Sunday someone called police to report that a community mail box in the 2800 block of Wishing Way was broken into with possible mail stolen out the back. Postal inspectors were alerted.

Police also received an online police report on Sunday evening saying that the back of the community mail box in the 3500 block of Ashur Avenue was missing.

Ceres Police Lt. Brent Smith said the public is being asked to watch out for suspicious persons around mail boxes and advised postal patrons to remove their mail from boxes before night fall to safeguard against possible future thefts. He said thieves commonly use stolen mail for identity theft purposes.
