A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25 in the Fireside Room of Big Valley Grace Community Church, 4040 Tully Road, Modesto, for Lily Lystra, 85, of Modesto. She died June 11, 2011.

Born April 16, 1926 in Selma to John and Sophia Petersen, Lily moved to Ceres where she attended elementary school and Ceres High School. She attended Modesto Junior College. She waited for her high school sweetheart through World War II and when James Lystra returned, they married. She worked in retail for Graysons, Whites for Boys, and Lullaby Land and retired after 25 years. Lily enjoyed flower arranging, playing bridge with the ladies, traveling with her husband, dancing to big band music and she cooking for her family and friends. Music was one of her great passions and she was a church choir director, sang in a choir, and played the piano for Sunday school and for evening services at her church. Mrs. Lystra taught Sunday School for many years and was also active in the women's group at her church.

She leaves behind three children, Karen Lystra, Gaylen Mollet, and Torrey Lystra; and four grandsons, a granddaughter, and three great-grandsons.
