Memorial services were held Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Robert "Bob" William Hampton, 84, of Ceres. He died Nov. 16, 2007 at his home.

Born Oct. 9, 1923, Mr. Hampton enjoyed water-skiing, square dancing, jeeping, camping, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling to Pismo Beach to go clam hunting. Mr. Hampton was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rites Smyrna Lodge 532 Ceres. He was a WWII veteran enlisted in the First Army. During the D-Day invasion of Normandy he landed on Omaha Beach and in May, 2006 he traveled back to France and retraced his steps . He was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard.

He leaves behind his two daughters, Linda Hampton of Modesto and Robbie Huckabee of Modesto; a granddaughter Joanna Huckabee of Pasadena; two brothers, Gerald Hampton of Hughson, and Dan Hampton of Saginaw, Mich.; and a special niece Virginia Fry of Kingman, Ariz. as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Billie Hampton; two sisters, Eunice Null and Mildred Pitcock; and brother Buck Hampton.
