Weston Ranch edged Central Valley in Valley Oak League varsity swimming on Friday in Stockon.

"We have such a small team," Hawks coach Amy Kline said. "That makes it hard to win."

Central Valley's girls fell four points shy of defeating the Cougars, losing 62-58.

"We were actually ahead until the final relay," Kline said. "We got first place but they got second and third."

The Hawks (0-2) were led by Cierra Alvear, Anna Polovin, Alisha Segmiller, Cassie Dunn and Danielle Chavez.

Alvear, a freshman, placed first in the 100 fly in 1:20.52 and 100 back in 1:25.33.

Polovin placed first in the 200 IM (3:06.31) and 100 breast (1:35.56).

Segmiller, a freshman, placed first in the 200 free (2:52.06) and third in the 100 back (1:40.26).

Chavez placed first in the 100 free (1:08.15).

Central Valley's boys lost 65-55 to Weston Ranch.

"It was a close meet the entire way," Kline said.

Victor Cruz, Nick Serratos, Marcus Smith and Ricardo Vargas paced the Hawks (0-2).
