Ceres Garden Club plans to add a grove of trees at Smyrna Park to memorialize the nation's presidents was given a green light by the Ceres City Council last week.

The club wants to plan a "Let Freedom Ring" grove along an existing walkway off of Moffet Road and place a plaque at the base of each tree noting the president's name and term of office.

The club has $2,000 for the project but estimates another $28,000 needed. It is accepting donations from the public and sent to the Ceres Garden Club, P.O. Box 282, Ceres CA 95307.

"This project will also service the community as a learning tool for the school children when used as a field trip," said Shirley Davis of the Ceres Garden Club. "It can also be used for events like Fourth of July or Memorial Day with flags inserted at the base of each tree."
