A 19-year-old Ceres man was killed Tuesday morning when he allowed the company truck he was driving drifted and hit head-on a big-rig in the Hughson area.

Kyle Stewart Plegge was rushed to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto where he was declared dead following the 9:50 a.m. crash.

The California Highway Patrol said that Plegge was driving northbound on Geer Road east of Hughson when he was approaching a green light at Hatch Road. CHP spokesman Tom Killian said the driver of an oncoming 2003 Freightliner saw Plegge lean across his seat like he was retrieving something and drifted into his vehicle.

"They hit headlight to headlight," said Killian.

Plegge was not seatbelted and was ejected with fatal injuries resulting.

The crash caused major damage to the 2001 Ford one-ton flatbed truck owned by Associated Feed of Turlock.

Marlon Lee Burgess, 46, of Turlock, the driver of the big-rig, said he had just left the intersection and was traveling at about 35 mph when he was struck by Plegge's vehicle. Burgess was not injured.
