• WOMAN HITS CAR, ARRESTED FOR DUI: CERES - Margarita Arroyo, 45, of Modesto, was arrested Saturday evening after she allowed her car to rear-end another car stopped for a red light and was determined to be intoxicated.

At 8:24 p.m. William Hilgen, 68, of Riverbank, was stopped in his red 2000 Pontiac Grand Am on eastbound Hatch Road at Moffet Road for a red light. Arroyo barreled into the back of the Grand Am in her green 2006 Pontiac G6. Hilgen was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with complaints of pain to his back, neck and stomach.

Arroyo was arrested on charges of felony DUI since Hilgen was injured.

Both vehicles sustained major damage, said Ceres Police Lt. Brent Smith.

• GUN FOUND IN TRAFFIC STOP: CERES - Two men were arrested early Sunday morning after their car was stopped and an officer saw a loaded handgun in the front seat.

At 1:35 a.m. the Ceres officer saw a green 1994 Acura Integra stopped in the northbound lane of Richland Avenue in the 1600 block. The men did not have their seatbelts on so the officer went to make a traffic stop. After being stopped driver Jesus Arreola Murillo, 28, of Ceres, was not obeying officers' orders and so both he and passenger Omar Pastran, 20, of Ceres, were taken out of the car. That's when the officer saw in plain view a 9-mm Ruger pistol between the seats.

Murillo was charged with carrying a loaded concealed weapon. Pastran was charged with public drunkenness.

• PAROLEES CHARGED: CERES - Two men were arrested late Sunday when a car was spotted driving recklessly on Bystrum Road near Latimer Avenue.

At 11:16 p.m. a Ceres patrol officer had to swerve to avoid hitting a green 1993 Saturn four-door that was coming toward him in his lane. The officer pursued the Saturn which pulled over on Pecos Avenue.

Driver Clifton Dale, 30, of Hilmar, was charged with driving on a suspended license. As the car was being searched before it was towed, the officer found a loaded .38 calber handgun in the engine compartment as well as a gray-colored beanie and black face mask. Those items got him additionally charged with carrying a loaded concealed handgun and possession of burglary tools. He was also charged with parole violation.

His passenger, Billy Ensminger, 28, of Modesto, was arrested for parole violation, and possession of a small amount of marijuana, and possession of burglary tools.
