BODY FOUND IN CAR: CERES - A Modesto man reportedly died inside a car Friday, possibly from a drug overdoese.

Police were called to the Kmart parking lot on Hatch Road at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 by a woman who said she couldn't roust her passenger. Police found Nathan Landes, 32, dead in the car.

The results of a toxicology report should be available in six weeks .

According to Detective Trenton Johnson, the man may have expired in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The woman said she sent the Wal-Mart parking lot at 1 p.m. but a receipt indicates a different time, leading Johnson to say she is "not being very honest." There was no hint of foul play.

TEEN BEAT UP: Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the men who beat up a Ceres teen on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Fourth Street and Whitmore Avenue.

Ceres Police Division Commander Mike Borges said that a 16-year-old Hispanic boy was walking down the street at 6:53 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by three Hispanic males in a white car. Someone in the car asked him if he was a member of the Surreno gang and he replied that he wasn't. According to the victim, two of the men got out and began punching him to the ground. They grabbed his backpack and then sped off.

Those who have information on the suspects are urged to call the Detectives Bureau at 538-5727.

CAUGHT WITH CAR DEALER'S GOODS: A Modesto man was arrested in the 2400 block of Industrial Way in Ceres carrying a large briefcase belonging to the owner of Haidlen Ford automobile dealership in Oakdale Sunday morning.

Sgt. Chris Perry saw a suspicious man milling around the area and found that David Clayton, 52, of Modesto, was a parolee who could be searched. Perry went through the briefcase in Clayton's possession and discovered identification belonging to Mr. Haidlen. Police contacted the owner and found out that his pickup had been broken into hours earlier while dining at Mimi's Cafe near the Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto.

Clayton, on parole for narcotics violations, was arrested and booked into the County Jail for possession of stolen property and violating the terms of his parole.

ARRESTED FOR THREATS: A 25-year-old Ceres man was arrested Saturday evening for making felonious threats against the bartender of Latino's Bar on Mitchell Road.

Antonio Reyes was arrested after he was denied more alcohol by the bartender, causing Reyes to break a beer bottle and threatening to fetch a gun from his car to shoot her. Reyes allegedly threw the bottle in the 11 p.m. incident.
