• HIT & RUN DRIVER ARRESTED: CERES - Police arrested a driver who left the scene of a crash early Monday morning.

Lt. Brent Smith said that a 2004 Nissan Altima was parked in front of a house in the 2800 block of Dale Avenue and struck by a westbound 1993 Chevy pickup being driven at 30 to 40 mph.

The crash at 12:35 a.m. prompted calls to 911. An officer located the pickup in the 2800 block of Garrison Avenue where it had been stopped, probably because of the major damage.

The officer saw Brady Ogden, 36, of Ceres, returning to his pickup. He admitted that he was involved in the collision. Since he did not try to contact the owner or call police, he was arrested for hit and run.

Smith said Ogden was not intoxicated.

Both vehicles sustained major damage.

• DUI, HIT & RUN CHARGED: CERES - Jose Hermosillo, 64, of Ceres, was arrested Monday, May 9, after he collided with another vehicle and fled - all while allegedly intoxicated.

Police caught up with the suspect at 1:35 p.m. at Mancini Park off of River Road.

The crash occurred when Hermosillo was southbound on Central Avenue near Hatch Road in a white 1998 Ford van and suddenly made a backwards U-turn, striking a silver 2002 Nissan Maxima waiting to make a left turn onto Hatch Road from Central Avenue. The victim's car sustained only minor damage so the victim followed the suspect, eventually onto River Road.

Police found the suspect and arrested him, transporting him to Doctors Medical Center for a sample of his blood.

• PURSUIT ENDS IN CRASH: CERES - Two Ceres teenagers face charges as the result of a police chase that ended when the suspects crashed a stolen vehicle into items costing tens of thousands of dollars in damages.

The names of the two teens were not released due to a state law that prevents such disclosures because of their age.

The incident started at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday when officer Freddie Ortiz tried to stop a 2004 Ford Expedition SUV which was being driven without headlights at Central and Whitmore avenues.

The pursuit reached speeds of up to 80 mph and ended when a 14-year-old female driver lost control and ran off the road east of the intersection of Whitmore Avenue and Crowslanding Road. The SUV sheered off a TID power pole, hit the front bumper of another car. struck an equipment box that controls the traffic signals and then struck the expensive John Deere farm combine on display at San Joaquin Equipment.

Three occupants began to flee on foot. The driver and a 13-year-old male were apprehended. The boy was uncooperative during his arrest and had to be subdued with a couple of baton strikes to the legs, said Lt. Brent Smith.

The boy was booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of resisting or delaying an officer. The girl was charged with hit and run, DUI, driving without a license, pursuit and failure to yield, driving a stolen vehicle and possession of an open container.
