Ceres Cop Car

A 14-year-old Ceres boy was arrested for auto theft late Wednesday evening, June 21 after he was stopped by an officer after committing a number of violations.

Ceres Police Officer Eric Gallegos made a stop on a black Saturn in the area of Herndon and Eugene at approximately 11:41 p.m. The driver did not stop initially and it appeared he would run. The vehicle then made a sudden stop with the driver immediately getting out and getting ready to bolt. The officer drew his weapon and ordered the driver to stay in the vehicle to which he complied.

In the ignition, Gallegos noticed a shaved key, a common method of thieves used to steal cars.

Gallegos tracked down the owner of the car who reported the vehicle was recently stolen from their Modesto home.

The boy was booked into Juvenile Hall for auto theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools.
