A 16-year-old Ceres boy was arrested and faces a charge that he attempted to kill a young man in the 2300 block of Caswell Avenue on Oct. 26.
Police investigators believe the shooting was gang related with Ceres Police Chief Trenton Johnson reporting increased gang activity in Ceres.
A 19-year-old man was shot in the 2:13 a.m. shooting during a disturbance at a residence. A caller reported that gunshots had been fired and that at least one male had been struck. Officers responded to the scene and located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They immediately rendered medical aid until relieved by AMR paramedics and Modesto Fire Department personnel. He was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
Ceres Police detectives worked leads and identified the suspect as the 16-year-old. Along with members of the SWAT team, on Nov. 5 detectives served an arrest warrant at the boy’s residence in the 1900 block of Pleasant Avenue west of Highway 99. The suspect surrendered without incident and was booked into Juvenile Hall on charges related to attempted murder. Due to the juvenile’s age, the identity of the suspecr will not be released.
