Police arrested a 24-year-old Ceres man Monday evening after he was reportedly shoplifting at the 99 Cents Only store on Hatch Road.

A call was made at 8:35 p.m. about the suspect, Mark Threet, placing merchandise in his pockets and one employee said a gun was spotted in his waistband. Officers arrived and approached him after he exited the store and Threet was pinned to the ground. Threet did not have a weapon as was reported but did have a hypodermic syringe.

As he was handcuffed and being interrogated, Threet ran off but was apprehended and forced to the ground.
The store was checked for a gun but none was found.

Threet was arrested for resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and an outstanding warrant.
