A bicyclist who was stopped by a police officer and tried to run away was captured when he struck the front of the patrol car and fell to the ground Tuesday evening, Feb. 23.

At 8:16 p.m. Officer Justin Canatsy was in the area of Mitchell Road and Nicholas Way when he spotted Peter Moreno, 48, of Ceres, riding a bicycle. Canatsy tried to stop Moreno, who was on probation, but he peddled away down a dirt alley. Canatsy initiated a pursuit and while making a turn the two collided and Moreno fell down. Canatsy got out and handcuffed Moreno and found out he was in possession of methamphetamine.

Moreno was charged with probation violation, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
