A Modesto man was arrested early Thursday after he was bounced from a downtown Ceres bar and allegedly tried to drive into the establishment.

At 1:43 a.m. Ceres Police were dispatched to Sweet Lu's Fourth Street Lounge, 3014 Fourth Street, regarding A.G. "Bud" Welch, Jr., 67, of Modesto, who was reportedly attempting to drive his silver Dodge Ram into the bar but was stopped by the curb. Officers arrived and arrested Welch for DUI.

A bouncer told police that Welch arrived already intoxicated at about 12:30 a.m. and that after consuming two drinks became argumentative and confrontational to him and patrons for no apparent reason. Welch was escorted outside but got into his 2003 Doge pickup and tried to drive through the front of the business. When he reversed the vehicle he struck a parked car across the street.

Welch displayed signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment and refused to answer questions and perform field sobriety test. He also refused to submit to blood or breath test.

Ceres Police Officer Coey Henson sought a search warrant to obtain a blood draw from Welch. The warrant was granted and Welch was transported to Doctors Hospital in Modesto where an evidentiary blood draw was taken.

Welch was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for DUI.
