A Modesto resident was arrested on warrants in the parking lot of the Ceres Walmart store on Saturday evening after someone reported him beating his dog.

Police responded to the 9:56 p.m. call and located Charles Powell, 30, of Modesto. The dog appeared to be uninjured but a check on Powell led to a discovery that he had warrants.

The dog was turned over to family members for its care while Powell was booked into the Public Safety Center.
