Car rammed during road rage chase

An incident of Nov. 26 road rage started with a driver flipping off another which triggered a chase in which the man who made the obscene gesture had his car rammed.

The incident began at 3:10 a.m. on Thursday morning at Hatch and Moffet roads when the first driver flipped off Gregory Vaughn, 30, of Modesto. Vaughn was enraged and chased after the man onto Highway 99 into Modesto. According to Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. Chris Perry, Vaughn was behind the first driver and rammed the back end twice on Highway 99. The chase came off the freeway and ended when the chasee spotted a Modesto Police officer filling up his tank at Ninth and D streets. The officer investigated the case and learned that it started in Ceres.

Vaughn was reportedly combative with officers and at one point spit in an officer's face.

Vaughn was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
